There are many delightful vacation cottages to choose from in Anglesey. The island, which is to be found off the coast of north-west Wales, makes a brilliant option for a self catering vacation as there are a great number of things to do for all ages. There are numerous delightful beaches, an impressive castle, historical buildings, stunning scenery, outdoor pursuits and so much more. Children of all ages will love Anglesey’s magnificent beaches. Several of the beaches on this pretty island have won awards and the majority are sandy making them appropriate for families. Benllech is one of Anglesey’s most well known and well-liked beaches. It has won the European Blue Flag Award many times. It is clean and spacious and there are numerous facilities including ice cream parlours, a car park and a seaside shop. Food is also on offer. Aberffraw has clean, white sands, stacks of breathing space and boasts views of Snowdonia. It is a quieter beach, but makes an ideal spot for a picnic or relaxed amble. Church Bay is a small, picturesque pebble beach which is well-known for the church which can be viewed from the sea. The local eatery is well-known for its cooked lobster. Red Wharf Bay is a fine beach which is sandy with some cobbles. It has great views over the bay and amenities including a café and pub. Trearddur Bay is located near to Holyhead and is one of Anglesey’s most popular beaches. It is very popular with water sports enthusiasts and there are lots of facilities in the vicinity. Beaumaris Castle is probably one of the most impressive castles in the country and is definitely worth a visit. It was actually never totally finished as funds and supplies ran out before it could be finished. It is open all year round and there are frequently special events held during the Spring and Summer. Anglesey has several sites of historical relevance. Archaeologists have discovered numerous sites that contain ancient artefacts such as pottery and tools. The Menai Suspension Bridge was built by Thomas Telford and was in fact the world’s first iron suspension bridge. There are more than six hundred and fifty miles of footpaths which pass through a range of different landscapes from sea cliffs to ancient woodlands. There are walks to suit all abilities. A walking festival takes place every summer. Anglesey has four eighteen hole golf courses and three nine hole courses all in wonderful settings. The island also has a twelve hole course.
